Alta Skiing Info
AltaCam is a website that features information on life and powder skiing in Alta, Utah. Although a little behind on the powder, the skiing is still REAL good. We're nearing a 100-inch base and last season we saw 14 feet in 14 days during March! Don't forget to subscribe to the The Daily POW for the latest. (posted February 9, 2010)

Be sure to check out "The Alta Experience" documentary showing on KUED Wed, Dec 3rd, 2008 @ 7:00 pm & again @ 8:30 pm.
Quote:
Celebrating the 70th anniversary of Alta Ski Resort, a new KUED documentary transports viewers to a mountain town with a history richer than its silver mining past. This colorful glide down memory's slope features interviews of those who remember the first chairlift in Utah and the personalities who developed early powder skiing techniques. Using archival movies, early photographs, and stunning contemporary aerial footage, this one-hour program chronicles the generations who have carved fresh lines in Alta's famous untracked snow. Length: 55 minutes, 56 seconds.

Will there be a way to watch this via the Internet or obtain a DVD of it? Anybody willing to record and burn me a copy? I live in the Midwest and would love to see it.

Some commented and requested the same at SBP (where to buy a copy of this documentary).

We'll see what we can find out and post back to this thread...

Some info on where you can buy this DVD:

Not sure if I missed it before or not, but on KUED’s interactive trail map for this feature, there’s a link in the lower right corner for more info… Then on that page, there’s another link for "Purchase the DVD". $75 donation to KUED required, but it’s worth it, and your donation will go to a good cause.

I hope everyone had a chance to watch this documentary. The thing that stood out to me was the lift line back in teh 40's. It would go all the back to the alta lodge on busy days. I know we all complain about the lines we wait in jnow, but it is nothing compared to the single chair back in the day. I also thought it was interesting that they didn't make the towers high enough and had to dig channels through the snow for the chairs to pass through. Alta has certainly come a long way in 70 years...
