Lately I've been looking for systems coming from Northern Ca. heading east to determine if a storm will contribute to the Wasatch. Should I be looking further to the west, say in the Pacific or what?
Any tips on storm watching would be very helpful.
It's so sad to see the lack of snow so far this year. I've heard that some of the resorts are asking the reservation staff to take extra days off due to low reservation rate.
On the brightside from over here...Snowshoe WV has been getting hammered lately...opened early. And our local hill started blowing yesteday.
Just an update from my intro/topic last year about this time. I was able to catch that great dump the first week of April. Woke up at the Peruvian to 16+ inches and got a great first timers powder lesson from Syd. Thanks to all who responded to my intro last year. |

The NOAA Discussion site for SLC provides discussions of what the weather models are indicating.
http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/total_forecast/getprod.php?wfo=slc&pil=AFD&sid=SLC&version=0
The keywords I to watch for is "Slow moving Gulf of Alaska low with strong Orographic Lift"
Once the storm is on track for LLC then I look at the Current Hazards Watches/Warning site, a tab on the NOAA page. Keywords I watch for is " 2 to 3 feet, more in favorer areas (aka Alta) |

Yeah I saw that Big O word yesterday as well....gave me goosebumps!
Wish I could be there after it hits, but looks like I won't make it out until after the holidays.
I'm so happy for Alta and the others resorts in the area as well.
ENJOY !! |
