While the Swiss may be known for the manufacturing of watches, the Swiss Company Fritschi Diamir
has built an incredible reputation for the design and development of alpine touring bindings.
It revolutionized the backcountry skiing scene with its introduction of the Fritschi Freeride
Bindings.
Introduced in the 2006 season, the Fritschi Diamir Freeride Plus Binding remains unchanged.
Just like the original Free Ride,
these bindings are designed for big-mountain freeskiing with a
DIN setting that goes to 12. The adjustable toe height and Teflon anti-friction plate
guarantee that the Freerides will fit any alpine touring or standard alpine ski boots.
The Freerides weigh in at 4 lbs 9oz. The Freeride Plus has a different riser system for
more rigidity than the regular freeride, and also has a new release system that is less
prone to coming undone while skiing. If you're looking for a little lighter set-up and
don't need a DIN setting of 12, take a serious look at the Fritschi Diamir Explore
Alpine Touring Binding. These bindings are of similar construction to the Freeride's with
a high DIN setting of 10. They weigh only 3 lbs 3 oz. Both bindings offer a heel lever designed
for an easy transition from ski mode to touring mode, featuring 4 positions of lift.
They also come in 3 sizes based on your boot sole length:
[Short] 245-300mm; [Medium] 280mm-335mm; [XL] 325-365mm
Suggested Retail Price of The Fritschi Bindings: Freeride: $425, Freeride Plus: $425, Explore: $370
